I recently enjoyed finding a lovely little ode to our shop tucked away in a corner of the net I had never ventured into, jumping back several years. It gives one a pleasant perspective on just how long we’ve been “keeping on” and of course it’s always fantastic to be appreciated. It was an honor to be listed as a highlight of her trip with the other greats of San Francisco like the Golden Gate Bridge, the Painted Ladies, and delectable cupcakes.

New Year’s is the oldest holiday still being celebrated. The Babylonians celebrated the new year as early as 4000 B.C. At that time, the new year began on the first new moon after the Vernal Equinox. The celebration continued for eleven days, with each day having a different purpose and activity. Then, as now, resolutions were made.
With parties all over the world like the fantastic one in Madeira, a Portugese island, which holds a place in the Guinness Book of Records for the most lavish New Year’s party, we look forward to getting fancy and being with those whom we love!
In 2007, 8,000 fireworks per minute made up the display in Funchal, the capital city in Madeira, for a total of 600,000 fireworks. Visitors from around the world fill the tiny harbor, where the dazzle is reflected.

Just in time for Christmas week, our artists and designers have been dropping off gorgeous new pieces daily for all you last minute shoppers. I stopped in the shop yesterday and photographed our newest pieces to share, so if you’re still looking for that perfect gift, here are a few Swankety ideas.

This year, we wanted a little something extra special, something that will really help you get to know Swankety Swank and our artists and designers a little bit better and grow to love them just as much as we do.
Over the past several months, I’ve been working hard with Yabette and the artists and designers of Swankety Swank to create a holiday catalog featuring their work. Some of the artists took me up on my offer to do mini-shoots around the city to make this catalog extra special. With my 4 year-old in tow, and loving every minute of it, we found some of the prettiest spots in San Francisco to show-off their work and personalities.
It’s been a year of ups and downs, but we are all feeling thankful for the support we’ve received from the community, and we want to thank you all for being a part of the Swankety Swank community, for supporting local artists and sustainable practices!
