Welcome to Swankety Swank

Swankety Swank Founder, Yabette Alfaro, tells the story…

I started Swankety Swank because I wanted to connect conscious consumers to talented local artists and designers.

I believe shopping local is good for the planet and the economy. From my airy store on Divisadero Street in San Francisco, I strive to carry treasures you will love and keep for generations to come. Unlike much of the overseas, mass produced products made today, they’ll still be around.  I seek out artists that are master craftspersons, highly creative, and thoughtful about designing products that our customers want and need.  Our selection of clothing and accessories is eclectic, fanciful, and entirely wearable.  I pick styles for people who like to stand out.  Whatever your vibe, you should have at least one piece that POPS.  Expressive styles, vibrant colors,  fine textiles,  wispy feathers, sparkly stones, vintage lace and antique fabrics meet fine-tuned technique, and passion for hand-made.  Take a few minutes to read more about our Artists and Designers.

I started making creative work because I was a new mother looking to live an artful life; to create and live with beautiful things.  I felt a sense of deep sadness when I realized that many of the things we fill our lives with are  not good for the planet, and unlikely to last long enough to become a family heirloom.   I wanted to make sure there were pieces my son could use with his children one day; so he could have a few treasured pieces from our family home to ground him, to remind him who he is, and that he is loved.  I started looking for vintage pieces with good bones, and lots of potential that fit nicely into a modern home.  Eventually, I started making furniture for other people and that continued to grow. I like what you do with old furniture. I have come across a pair of wood chairs that with some TLC could have a brand new swanky life. Do you take donations? I can send photo.

      Hi Rebecca,

Thank you so much! It’s donations like yours that keep our shop thriving and able to support over 20 other artists! Feel free to bring them over when we are open.
      Warm Regards,
      Yabette
