The show was in Supervisor Olague’s office in City Hall.  I could hear the party as I walked up the stairs.

Good food, music, company, and art made for a stimulating evening.

Swankety Swank has grown into a grand, successful magickal adventure, and I am evolving it again into a more manageable situation for me. You can continue to find Swankety Swank furniture, interiors work, and creative projects in other locations and by appointment and commission in my new studio.

The Divisadero Artwalk is on April 12th and we do hope you shop with us as this will be our last Divisadero Artwalk before moving. We will feature Heroic Tarot Readings by STORM and a STARSEED art preview. We’ll also have all furniture on sale for 30% off!

I love a new bag for Spring, and we have some fine new choices by Tickle and Smash.   All of these bags are produced locally, so you can know your choice is supporting the local economy, artists, and sustainable, earth-friendly fashion.  Cute sustainability is where it’s at!

I love the graphic print of this bag.  It is fully lined with interior pockets for accessing your important things quickly (grab that MUNI pass fast!) and keep your bag organized.  It can also be laundered to keep it looking fresh.  You couldn’t ask for a better weekend or commute bag.

I adore this classic shirt with a punchy twist  by DAS.   Much like the mullet, this is all business in the front, party in the back.   It also makes the change from day to evening in a snap.

Yabette has been hard at work,  making over old furniture and putting vintage fabrics back to work, just in time for your adventures in spring cleaning and home makeovers.

This rich pastel print is infused with effervescent pastels, the texture is soft and velvety.  This chair is  pure luxury.

Yabette has also been working on some upcycled panel board paintings.  If you love Yabette’s painting, but are still waiting for your perfect piece to appear at the right time, consider a piece of original art by Yabette to hold you over.

I  am overjoyed that The Evans Group exists. I always tell our customers that designers like Trinity Cross of Field Day or Kirsten Schipper of Shebobo among others, are keeping our local sewing houses open and I am so glad this establishment has the same mission.

We all understand the dismal truths about overseas mass production, but I will re-iterate this here in case this is news to you.

1. Unfair Working Conditions. US designers are unable to properly monitor that conditions are healthy. The simple, logical truth is that even if a “guided” tour of a facility on a certain day shows a veiled look at “fairness”, there are numerous expose’s revealing the vile treatment of workers and children in overseas sweatshops.  When your production is happening in your own city, you can easily “pop in” and see the conditions for yourself.
2. Limited Resources of Earth. The amount of oil consumed on this planet right now is staggering, and guess what folks? It’s running out. All those cheap goods on giant ships are costing the Earth and our futures. This is not sustainable.
3. More Local Income. We’ve already proved this in previous essays, but it’s still a fantastic reason. In fact, I am not sure which one of these reasons is most important.

Moving on, I am thrilled to showcase a place where, as a creative thinker with limited resources you can have your wearable ideas made tangible.

As a consumer, it pays in so many rewarding ways to support the designers who produce with integrity. This is why I am adamant about carrying only what’s produced locally here at Swankety Swank.

I cannot help but be influenced by life discoveries when applied to my creative process. I make artful clothing or art furniture because I enjoy the idea of each item being practical and part of the recipient’s everyday life.

The last few years have been a a great experience in finding my true bliss, and I am always striving to express that in what I present. So, in thinking about this amazing year of 2012, I am pursuing connectivity and that relates to the Seven Pillars of the Universe.
